How to Be Humble

"In reality there is perhaps no one of our natural Passions so hard to subdue as pride. Disguise it, struggle with it, beat it down, stifle it, mortify it as much as one pleases, it is still alive, and will every now and then peep out and show itself...For even if I could conceive that I had completely overcome it, I should probably be proud of my humility." - Benjamin Franklin

"It's hard to be humble," says an old country song,"when you're perfect in every way." Very few people, of course, actually think they're perfect in every way, but it can still be pretty hard to be humble, especially when you live in a society that encourages competition and individuality. Even in such a culture, however, humility is an important virtue. Learning to be humble is of paramount importance in most religions and spiritual traditions, and humility can also help you develop as a person and enjoy richer relationships with others.

Sometimes when I look at certain people, I cant help feeling sad for myself.

At other times, I smirk at being some elitist piece of sh*t.

Still, humility is a virtue we should all practice.

Turning 25, I realised, I have yet to see, hear, taste, feel, smell, read, walk, swim, cycle, run, row, understand, comprehend, fantasize, sleep, wake up, type, write, listen, compose, explored, surf, inhale, exhale, stay still, run around, fall in love, fall out of love, give flowers, receive chocolates, take photographs of others, take photographs of scenery, take photographs of myself, joke, laugh, smile, cry, shout, scream, be strong, be flexible, be stable, be wild, be honest, be seductive, be sneaky, be clear, be thoughtful, be sensitive, be selfish, be horrible, be a son, be a brother, be a classmate, be a friend, be a human, be a man enough.

So may I pray for that little bit more desire, little bit more greed, little bit more selfishness, little bit more ambition, little bit more passion, little bit more hope, little bit more grace, little bit more thick-skinned, little bit more want, to have, be, want, more.

The new school term has begun, and I think I stepping into a whole new (and last) set of scholastic challenges on my wrong foot!

I overslept my nap and missed the bidding for tutorials round 1A.

I still have yet to settled my last required Independent Study Module, being rejected and tossed by my professors left, right and centre.

My proposal for my Honours Thesis has yet to be approved.

My room is in a mess (and I just spent an hour clearing it up).

I have yet to do my customary semester planning i.e. put up all sorts of mahjong paper depicting unintelligible hieroglyphics only the likes of me can understand.

I have yet to set goals that I will barely achieve.

I have yet to decide if I want to row competitively in March.

I am having hives right now and my hands and legs are dotted with hydrocortisone.

I have yet to do laundry.

I cant decide whether to appreciate what I have or pursue something I wonder if it would come to fruition. And I know I am not allowed to have both.

The great thing about all this, is that everything is only for now. the good and the bad. Especially the bad, because this too shall pass.

And I have the soundtrack of Avenue Q and High Society's Lust to keep me company, when no one else can.

Its Ben's birthday at Hanabi!

Shah, Ben and Me. Ben is as fair as the Scandinavian countries he's just back from. He's as white as porcelain snow! contrasted with his new comb over styled hair do. Reminds me of Hitler. without the mustache. That's not saying he isn't already a dictator!

Cheers!

Got the photos from Shah. I like Shah's phone! Nokia N95. We are waiting for the N83.... *rubs hands in delight*

Its another year. For Ben and for us. Gone are the days when we go "oh gosh, its been six years since we graduated from JC." now we have to go "its been SEVEN years!"

well, numbers are just numbers sometimes. We should be aware, but not get hung over it. Whether we are 29 or 34 or 38. :)

My Political Science cohort organized a gathering! its impressive because our cohort is really big compared to all the other majors in Arts and Social Science.

and the turn out was pretty good!

yinda was very nice as to drive lydia, wt and me to Shawn's house which is very very far in somewhere along upper Thompson road.

the first game we each played was "who is that?" game. haha! thats cos we do not know each and every one. so we grouped with those whom we know and just point to a random stranger and ask "so whos that in green?" or "she looks familiar..."

so at the same time, i got to know more names and more faces. haha!! it was actually very fun.

ended up playing cards with carol, parvin, WT, xiangjun, charmaine, chelsea, xiangjun, and tuty.

but me and WT left early, cos she was really tired. ah well!

still, it was great to have been there! maybe someone can organize one every year!

I thought I would be egoistic!

I dunno how to do collages so its the old fashion pic after pic. of nobody, but ME! its me at different random instances in my life in the year 2007.

I know im not the most handsome, nor the most charming, nor the most nai4 kan4, but if there is anyone I love most, really, its myself!

For those who like to look at me (like ME!), enjoy!

Dinner at Hong Kong zi cha at Bukit Merah. Its the same one that GM and his family introduced to me! I like it there! the food and the chinese styled round tables. Wanna bring my family there!!!

and then walked to ikea for, the one thing everyone will get: hotdog!

Went Blading at East Coast Park!

and guess who I met there? My darling Ms Wen!
